INDIANAPOLIS – Earlier this afternoon an envelope with an unknown substance was delivered to Fairbanks. Following protocol, IMPD was contacted to ensure the safety of our patients, employees and visitors. According to a Marion County Public Health Department representative, field screenings of the substance did not detect anything hazardous. However, because it was a credible threat a sample was collected and sent to the state LRN lab. The Marion County Public Health Department expects to have preliminary test results in 24 hours.

As a precaution, Fairbanks is securing a section of the building until the results are received. Precautions were taken to ensure there was no harm to our patients, employees, visitors or law enforcement officials.

We appreciate the immediate and thorough response of the IMPD, Indianapolis Fire Department and the Marion County Public Health Department.

Further questions regarding the substance should be directed to the Marion County Public Health Department and further statements regarding investigation of this matter will come from IMPD.
