How treating opioids with more opioids has divided the recovery community

As America’s opioid crisis deepens, millions are now on some form of medication-assisted treatment, including Subutex and its sister drug, Suboxone. In 2016, after growing evidence to support the use of medication-assisted treatment, real government dollars were put behind it.

But as the number of opioid deaths rises, people in the treatment and recovery field remain sharply divided over whether medication is the best approach — and whether it should continue to receive the majority of government funds.
