Fairbanks Supports September as National Recovery Month
August 20, 2014
In recognition of National Recovery Month, Fairbanks Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center is reaching out to the Indianapolis community to help spread the word that treatment works and recovery is possible. According to the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 23.1 million people aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem, but only 3.8 million received professional treatment for a substance use disorder.
Recovery Month is a national observance educating Americans that addiction treatment and mental health services can allow those with a substance use disorder to live healthy and rewarding lives. National Recovery Month spreads the positive message that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.
Please wear purple in recognition of Recovery Month on Wednesday, September 3. Fairbanks will be handing out recovery stickers at the Fresh Start Café located in the Fairbanks Recovery Center. More recovery month events and information can be found at www.fairbankscd.org/recovery-month and www.recoverymonth.gov.
If drugs or alcohol are affecting your or a loved one’s life, seek help from a professional. Fairbanks offers free assessments seven days a week. Call to make an appointment at 800.225.4673 or fill out an online inquiry at www.fairbankscd.org/getting-help.
