Fairbanks Alumni Association Golf Outing: Supporting Recovery
August 30, 2013
The tradition started 15 years ago, a tradition that brought many loves together in one day. Fairbanks staff member and longtime volunteer, Bob, has been a committed participant in the Fairbanks Alumni Association Golf Outing for 15 years, while also being committed to recovery for 21 years. “I love playing golf and being with the recovery community,” he said. “It was a chance to do both.”
Bob remembers showing up at his first outing feeling excited and so comfortable with everyone because they all had something in common â supporting recovery. “There were so many people that I knew there, but even the people I didn’t know were like old friends,” Bob said.
Understanding that staying connected is a vital part of recovery, Bob makes it a point to invite someone new each year. “That is my absolute favorite part of the Golf Outing,” Bob said. “Encouraging a new comer to play and seeing them actually show up.”
“If you can help Fairbanks, support recovery and play golf all in one day, why wouldn’t you come?!”
The 21st Annual Fairbanks Alumni Association Golf Outing will take place on Saturday, September 28th at 9 a.m. at the Ironwood Golf Club.
