Dr. Claudie H. Jimenez, MS MRO, has joined the Fairbanks staff.
Originally from Midland, Texas, Jimenez practiced emergency medicine in her home state before taking an administrative route in her career. She moved to New York to serve as an associate medical director at the Albany Medical Center in New York. After her husband’s job transferred him to the New York City area, Jimenez served as director of managed care and population management at Continuum Health Partners. At that point she wanted to return to seeing patients, so she accepted a fellowship in addiction medicine at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center.
“There are a lot of parallels between administration and addiction medicine because a lot of it is change management and getting folks ready for change,” Jimenez said. “And like many people, my family has been touched by addiction. The fellowship was a good match for me.”
After her fellowship, Jimenez stayed at St. Luke’s as the co-chief of their detoxification unit before serving as medical director of the chemical dependency and opioid treatment program at the Harlem East Life Plan (H.E.L.P.). She is excited about her new role at Fairbanks and the opportunity to work with an organization that has served this community for more than 70 years.
“Fairbanks sounded like a great opportunity. After I visited I knew it was going to be a great move,” said Jimenez, who’s also appreciative of the opportunity to help establish addiction medicine as its own specialty.
“These patients really require specialized care. It’s not something you can just do on the side.”
Married with three children, Jimenez earned her Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Texas Tech University and her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
