Fairbanks to host Dr. Tom McLellan at Susan Li Conference July 19 & 20

A. Thomas McLellan, Ph.D. will be the keynote speaker at the fifth annual Susan Li Conference. The conference entitled New Hope and Healing for the Addicted Family, will be held Fairbanks Recovery Center on Thursday, July 19 and Friday July 20, 2012. Fairbanks and other national and local experts in the field of addiction treatment and recovery will provide insight and education on the most relevant and evidence-based topics to help support and educate those providing treatment and recovery services.

Dr. McLellan is the CEO and founder of the Treatment Research Institute (TRI), a Philadelphia-based research and development organization dedicated to science-driven transformation of treatment, other practice and policy in substance use and abuse. He is the former Deputy Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. In his more than 35 years of addiction-related research, he has received several awards, including Life Achievement Awards of the American and British Societies of Addiction Medicine (2001 & 2003); the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Innovator Award (2005); and awards for Distinguished Contribution to Addiction Medicine from the Swedish (2002) and Italian (2002) Medical Associations.

In addition to Dr. McLellan, various other speakers will present both days on topics including: public policy and healthcare reform, family-based interventions, marital therapy, group treatment versus individual treatment and ethical use of prescription medications in treatment and recovery. Featured speakers include Gayle Dakof, Ph.D., research associate professor at the University of Miami, Eric Wright, Ph.D., professor at Indiana University and Dr. Tim Kelly, medical director at Fairbanks.
