Course Description

Spirituality and addiction is a one-day 6 contact hour course designed to provide addiction counselors with the most current information on the relationship of spirituality and addiction. The workshop will explore to role spiritually oriented factors play in the addiction and recovery process and how religion and spirituality can be used as a force in the treatment process. Training methods will include role-play, small group discussion and case studies.

Course objectives include:

• Define and distinguish the roles of religion and spirituality
• Discuss spirituality as a developmental process within recovery
• Understand the concept of a "Spiritual Awakening"
• Discuss the role of the counselor in helping clients explore issues of religion and spirituality
