Behavioral Couples Therapy at Fairbanks
Fairbanks has emphasized family involvement in treatment for 60 years. The Behavioral Couples Therapy at Fairbanks focuses on working toward progress in recovery through relationships. Fairbanks professionals, in collaboration with Indiana University, have implemented Behavioral Couples Therapy in order to fulfill the dual and unique needs of recovering individuals and their families for both recovery support and attainment of a more enriched relationship.
Recent findings would indicate that couples using this mode of treatment significantly improved their relationships, according to a study reported to the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy. Behavioral Couples Therapy aims to make disagreements less intense by helping partners understand, appreciate, and celebrate one another's differences. In recovery, as in relationships, it is often all about the little things. Behavioral Couples Therapy focuses on coaching and mentoring partners so that they learn how to be nicer to one another, communicate better and improve their conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. These skills are integrated with respect for the relationship dynamic and with an emphasis on supporting progress in recovery for both partners.
The 12-week commitment to Behavior Couples Therapy involves four promises:
- The couple will not threaten to separate or divorce one another.
- The couple will not engage in angry touching.
- The couple will commit to weekly one hour sessions.
- The couple will stay in the present or future-focused.
