FAIRBANKS OFFERS DRUG AND ALCOHOL INFORMATION TO PARENTS
Indianapolis, IN, October 27, 2008 - Talking to your teenager about drinking is not an easy subject, but it is important. Fairbanks offers drug and alcohol information, education and treatment for parents with at risk adolescents.
Underage drinking often begins as early as middle school. According to research conducted by The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), 34 percent of eight graders reported drinking alcohol within the past year and 64 percent of eighth graders say that alcohol is easy to obtain.
Fairbanks offers many options for adolescents who may have an addiction to alcohol or drugs, ranging from detoxification, inpatient and outpatient treatment to recovery management. The following programs are available through Fairbanks.
Community Education - Fairbanks' education liaison is available for education sessions to community groups as requested.
Discovery Groups - Six week educational group for teenagers who have been identified as experimenting with alcohol or drugs
Inpatient and Outpatient Treatment
Hope Academy - the recovery high school at Fairbanks
HOWSE - long-term residential unit for adolescents
Recovery Management - Programs designed to help individuals transition back to work, school and the community after treatment.
If parents suspect their teenager is abusing alcohol or drugs, they should seek help immediately. An adolescent who is struggling with an alcohol or drug addiction may have a dramatic change in appearance, friends and physical heath.
