The Richard M. Fairbanks Circle of Hope Award
Each year Fairbanks host its Circle of Hope Dinner to raise awareness of how everyone in our community can be affected by untreated addiction. The evening is dedicated to celebrating and honoring an individual or an organization with distinguished accomplishments in the field of addiction with the Richard M. Fairbanks Circle of Hope Award.
Fairbanks is proud to honor Richard M. Fairbanks' legacy with the Richard M. Fairbanks Circle of Hope Award. The award recognizes outstanding contributions related to research, education or treatment of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.
Mr. Fairbanks' history of support began when he recommended that the first distribution from the Cornelia Cole Fairbanks Trust be awarded to the Indiana Home, forerunner to Fairbanks. The trust had been set-up by his grandfather, Charles Warren Fairbanks, Vice President of the United States during Theodore Roosevelt's administration. Mr. Fairbanks continued his support throughout his lifetime with numerous gifts both personally and through his foundation.
The design of the award embodies every characteristic that each individual who is a part of the Fairbanks "circle of hope" holds. Courage, wisdom, serenity, trust and hope are symbolized in the award's glass, steel and limestone. In the center of the award lies the color amethyst, which comes from the ancient Greek word amethystos, meaning "without wine."
