Getting Help
Q: Is my family involved?
Alcohol and drug addiction is a treatable, chronic illness that affects both the patient and their family. Family members are usually the first to feel the impact of chemical dependency and its progressive decline. The same chaos and helplessness that occur during the beginning stages of the disease can continue throughout recovery, unless the family receives education and support along with their loved one. We encourage family members and significant others to become active in our family education programs. During inpatient programming, families are encouraged to participate in family education groups during visitation. If your loved one is in an outpatient program, you are encouraged to attend and participate in weekly family support groups. You can also speak with the primary counselor assigned to your loved one or the family counselor for more information. The majority of the therapeutic aspects of treatment are conducted in group sessions. Additionally, individual sessions, educational groups and family sessions may be scheduled.
