Adult Treatment Information
Clothing And Other Items
Everyday clothing is allowed as long as it is appropriate. Shoes or slippers must be worn at all times for safety and hygiene purposes. There are two laundry rooms; one for the women’s unit and one for the men’s unit. Detergent may be purchased at the gift shop, or family and friends may bring in the appropriate laundry materials. Electrical items such as razors, hair dryers and curling irons must be inspected upon admission. If the item is approved as safe, a sticker of approval will be placed on the item. Any electrical item brought in after admission must be turned into the nurses station. Any items deemed unsafe will be sent home or stored until the patient is discharged. Valuables should be left at home.
Exercise
Adults may participate in gym/recreational activities during designated times as a part of the daily schedule, as well as during any free time. Tennis/gym shoes are needed during an inpatient stay.
Name Tags
Name tags must be worn at all times by visitors, staff and patients.
Items Not Allowed In Treatment
Personal televisions, radios, laptops, PDA’s, beepers, cassette or CD players, cameras, MP3 players, iPods and hand-held electronic games are not permitted. Weapons of any kind are not permitted. Cell/camera phones (please retrieve all phone book contacts prior to admission) are also not permitted.
Medication
Patients should bring in a 15 day supply of their own "doctor prescribed" medications when they come in for an assessment. (Since it is impossible to predict whether or not patients till be admitted, they should always be advised to bring them in).
The medication must be in the original pharmacy container that includes pharmacy name, patient, name, medication name and dosage, etc.
Any medication not in original containers (baggies, pockets, etc.) are basically unidentifiable and unusable. They will either be sent home with the family or destroyed.
If patients need medications and they have not brought them to Fairbanks, family members or significant others can be called to ask them to bring the medications in.
Chapel
The chapel is accessible to patients and family members at any time for reflection or prayer. A non-denominational worship service is offered to our patients on Sunday mornings.
Tobacco Use
Fairbanks is a tobacco-free facility for all employees, patients, visitors, contract workers and volunteers.
Cigarette smoking is allowed for inpatient and partial hospitalization patients (PHP) only. Inpatient men and women must use the patio outside their lounge for smoking. Both patios are open from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday – Thursday and until 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Partial hospitalization patients may smoke on the patio outside the cafeteria only during designated breaks.
Food and Drink
Meals for patients on the detoxification level of care, who are on observation, are served in their room. Once off observation, meals are eaten in the dining room. Snacks and juices are provided in all patient lounges for inpatient men and women. For food safety reasons, no food from the dining room, lounge or vending machines can be taken into a patient’s room or a meeting room. Visitors are not allowed to bring in food or drinks to patients.
Fraternization
Romantic or sexual involvements or exclusive relationships among patients and/or staff are strictly prohibited.
Television
TV may be viewed when the patient is not required to be in a scheduled group or patient activity. Staff reserves the right to monitor television programming.
Bedtime
All patients must be in their rooms by 10:30 p.m. Lights out at 11:30 p.m.
Medical Emergencies
Fairbanks staff is trained in CPR and First Aid. Patients requiring emergency medical or surgical care are transferred to an acute care hospital.
